Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.

Author Guidelines

The Exponent, the official research journal of the University of Mindanao College of Business Administration Education, invites submissions of original research articles, review papers, case studies, and book reviews in business administration and related fields. To ensure a streamlined review and publication process, authors are required to adhere to the following guidelines when preparing their manuscripts. Submissions must follow the APA (American Psychological Association) 7th edition formatting guidelines.

1. Submission Process

  • Manuscripts must be submitted electronically via The Exponent submission portal.
  • Manuscripts should be written in English and adhere to the formatting guidelines outlined below.
  • Submissions must be original, unpublished works and not under consideration by other journals.

2. Manuscript Preparation

2.1. General Formatting

  • Document Format: Manuscripts must be submitted in Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx) format.
  • Font: Use Times New Roman, 12-point font.
  • Margins: Set margins to 1 inch on all sides.
  • Line Spacing: Use double spacing throughout the manuscript, including the references.
  • Page Numbers: Include page numbers in the upper right corner of each page.

2.2. Structure of the Manuscript

  • Title Page: Include the manuscript title, author(s) name(s), affiliations, and contact details. Clearly identify the corresponding author.
  • Abstract: Provide an abstract of 150-250 words that briefly summarizes the research objectives, methods, key findings, and conclusions.
  • Keywords: Include 3-5 keywords that reflect the content of the manuscript.
  • Main Text: Organize the main text using the following sections: Introduction, Methodology, Results, Discussion, and Conclusion. Subheadings may be used to clarify content within sections.
  • References: List all references cited in the manuscript according to APA 7th edition formatting.

3. Citation and References

3.1. APA Citation Format

  • In-text Citations: Use the author-date method of citation (e.g., Smith, 2020). For direct quotations, include the page number (e.g., Smith, 2020, p. 25).
  • Reference List: List all references in alphabetical order at the end of the manuscript. Each entry should contain full bibliographic details, adhering to APA 7th edition formatting.

3.2. Examples of Common Citation Formats

  • Journal Articles:

    Example:
    Davis, K. (2018). Consumer behavior trends. In R. Green (Ed.), Advances in marketing research (pp. 45-67). Sage.

  • Conference Papers:
    Author, A. A., & Author, B. B. (Year, Month). Title of the paper. In E. E. Chairperson (Chair), Title of Symposium. Symposium conducted at the meeting of Organization Name, Location.
    Example:
    Miller, T., & Lee, J. (2019, June). Innovative strategies in project management. In R. Taylor (Chair), Business Innovation and Leadership. Symposium conducted at the International Conference on Business Studies, Boston, MA.

  • Websites:
    Author, A. A. (Year, Month Day). Title of webpage. Website Name. URL
    Example:
    National Institute of Standards and Technology. (2021, July 13). Cybersecurity framework. U.S. Department of Commerce. https://www.nist.gov/cyberframework

4. Figures and Tables

  • Figures: Number figures sequentially (e.g., Figure 1, Figure 2) and include a concise caption. All figures must be referenced in the text and comply with APA guidelines for figure formatting.
  • Tables: Number tables sequentially (e.g., Table 1, Table 2) and provide a descriptive title. All tables must be referenced in the text and follow APA guidelines for table formatting.
  • File Formats: Figures should be submitted in high-resolution formats such as .jpeg, .png, or .tiff.

5. Peer Review Process

  • All manuscripts undergo a double-blind peer review process.
  • Authors will receive constructive feedback from reviewers, with revisions required before final acceptance.
  • The review process generally takes 6-8 weeks.

6. Copyright and Permissions

  • Authors must sign a copyright transfer agreement upon acceptance of their manuscript.
  • Articles published in The Exponent are licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) License, allowing for sharing and adaptation with appropriate attribution.

7. Ethics and Integrity

  • The Exponent adheres to strict ethical guidelines to maintain research integrity.
  • Plagiarism, data fabrication, and other forms of academic misconduct are strictly prohibited.
