Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.

Author Guidelines

The following guidelines are designed to help authors prepare their manuscripts according to the journal’s standards for review and publication.

1. Manuscript Preparation

  • Language: All manuscripts must be submitted in English. Authors should ensure clarity, coherence, and professional language use.
  • Length: Articles should typically be between 6,000 and 8,000 words, including abstract, references, tables, and figures.
  • Abstract: Each manuscript should include an abstract of 150 to 250 words, summarizing the key points of the article.
  • Keywords: Provide 4 to 6 keywords to help identify the main topics of your article.

2. Formatting Standards

  • Font and Spacing: Use Times New Roman, 12-point font, and double-spacing throughout the document, including references.
  • Margins: Set margins to 1 inch (2.54 cm) on all sides.
  • Alignment: Text should be justified.
  • Headings: Use a consistent hierarchy of headings. Main headings should be in bold, with subheadings in italics.
  • Page Numbers: Number pages consecutively in the bottom right corner.

3. Citation and Referencing Style

UMDRJ follows the APA (American Psychological Association) 7th edition formatting for citations and references. Here are some examples:

  • In-Text Citations:

    • For one author: (Smith, 2020)
    • For two authors: (Smith & Jones, 2020)
    • For three or more authors: (Smith et al., 2020)
  • Reference List:

    • Books: Author, A.A. (Year of Publication). Title of work: Capital letter also for subtitle. Publisher.
      • Example: Smith, J. (2020). Economics of development: Insights and analyses. Economy Press.
    • Journal Articles: Author, A.A. (Year of Publication). Title of article. Title of Periodical, volume number(issue number), pages.
      • Example: Smith, J., & Jones, M. (2020). Analyzing economic growth in Southeast Asia. Journal of Economic Growth, 15(2), 123-135.
    • Online Sources: Author, A.A. (Year, Month Day). Title of article. Title of Online Periodical. URLs

4. Tables and Figures

  • Each table and figure should be placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • Include a concise title for each table and figure.
  • Ensure each table and figure is cited in the text.

5. Submission Process

  • Manuscripts should be submitted electronically via the UMDRJ submission portal.
  • Include all author details (names, affiliations, email addresses) in a separate cover letter to ensure a double-blind review process.
  • Confirm that the manuscript is not under consideration elsewhere.

6. Ethics and Malpractice

  • Authors must disclose any potential conflict of interest.
  • Ensure the work is original and properly cited, adhering to the highest ethical standards.
